Eight entries have been received in this year’s Te Tohu Waka Hourua (two canoes) Award for working in partnership with Māori.

Te Tohu Waka Hourua recognises initiatives that demonstrate outstanding results from working in partnership with Māori. Entries can come from any area of local government activity but must be able to demonstrate a commitment to partnership with Māori.

“We continue to be pleasantly surprised by the breadth of activity covered in the entries – every aspect of community wellbeing is included in at least one of the entries,” said Raymond Horan, Taituarā Chief Advisor.

The eight entries include a Māori medium environmental education programme, a refresh of a co-management agreement, two renewal projects for sites of cultural significance, the codesign of a run-down community park, a programme to support preparedness on remote marae, supporting Māori businesses to get involved in transport procurement processes, and a Māori relationships strategy.

Buddle Findlay partner, Paul Beverley, said "we are privileged to be able to support this award which recognises the significant collaboration and achievements that result from Māori and councils working together.”

The winner of this Award, the six other category winners, and the LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Supreme Award will be announced at the Taituarā Gala Dinner and Excellence Awards at the Dominion Museum, Wellington on 13 June. If you would like to be a part of this celebration of excellence, more information is available here.

This Award and the Gala Dinner would not be possible without the sponsorship of Buddle Findlay, returning as a sponsor for the fifth year. We thank them for their ongoing support.
