About this event
Working with elected members requires a distinct set of skills including the ability to present advice and respond to questions effectively and confidently. This full-day in-person workshop, delivered by Catherine Syme, Articulate Training will cover:
- Behaviours that elected members can expect from you and vice versa including robust questioning/testing of your advice
- Preparing for presenting including introducing your report and preparing for questions
- What confident delivery looks like
- Managing nerves
- Understanding meeting protocols
- Responding to questions, including tricky questions
- Debriefing and the value of learning from experience.
There will also be a practical component. You will be asked to provide a report or memo in advance and deliver a two-minute introduction. You will receive a workbook covering the key learnings.
This workshop will improve your understanding of your role, of meeting protocols, political acumen, and what to expect in what can be a challenging environment.
This workshop is for advisors, team leaders, and managers who present regularly to Council, Committees, and Local Boards.
