Public education is a common theme of this year’s entries in the GHD Advisory Award for Excellence in Environmental Leadership.

The category recognises programmes, projects, or initiatives that provide tangible benefits to the environment, or showcase leading practice in managing environmental impacts in the local community.

The Hastings entry, Waiaroha, is a water treatment facility and discovery-centre dedicated to helping the community discover all things water. Great South have entered a workshop series helping businesses understand how they can measure, record, and reduce GHG emissions. And Auckland Food Scraps Service Rollout has an educational element to support the rollout of the service.

“Education supports better long-term environmental outcomes,” said Taituarā Chief Advisor, Raymond Horan.

“People get a much better understanding of issues, and therefore make better long-term decisions.”

GHD’s Market Leader – Advisory, David Walker, said that GHD is a proud sponsor of the Award.

“We have supported the environmental category for a number of years now as it aligns our global commitment to address the world’s biggest challenges in communities, water and energy. It is pleasing to see these themes being reflected in the 2024 Award entries, reinforcing our focus on sustainability for generations to come.”

The winner of this Award, the six other category winners, and the LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Supreme Award will be announced at the Taituarā Gala Dinner and Excellence Awards at the Dominion Museum, Wellington on 13 June. If you would like to be a part of this celebration of excellence. More information is available at here.

This Award and the Gala Dinner would not be possible without the sponsorship of GHD Advisory, returning as a sponsor for the fifth year. We thank them for their ongoing support.
