7 June 2019

Once again Local Government staff have raised the bar and put down a clear challenge to their Australian counterparts at the New Zealand leg of the Australasian Management Challenge. Fifteen teams from across New Zealand competed in the challenge held on 21 and 22 May at Silverstream Retreat in Upper Hutt.

The competing teams were:

  • Wellington City Council
  • Western Bay of Plenty District Council
  • Tauranga City Council
  • Bay of Plenty Regional Council
  • Invercargill City Council
  • Manawatu District Council
  • Rotorua Lakes Council
  • Kaipara District Council
  • Otago Regional Council
  • Auckland Council
  • Hastings District Council
  • Taupō District Council
  • Whakatāne District Council
  • Central Otago District Council
  • Queenstown Lakes District Council

Each year Taituarā runs the New Zealand leg of the Management Challenge, Australasia’s premier forum for current and emerging local government leaders. The Australasian Management Challenge is developed in Australia by LG Professionals Australia and delivered by Taituarā in New Zealand. It is sponsored by JLT.

The Challenge builds leaders of the future, develops the vast talent we have and creates networks not only within Councils, but across those districts and cities that participate. There was such a high calibre of teams, the judges had real difficulty picking a winner.

Congratulations to Western Bay of Plenty District Council who battled it out and came away as the overall winner of the New Zealand leg of the Challenge. The team will travel to Darwin to compete in the Australasian final at the end of July. Tauranga City Council placed second and Hastings District Council was third. Congratulations to you too.

Thanks again to those who participated and congratulations again to Western Bay of Plenty District Council!
