NZPI invites planners and allied professionals to the 2020 NZPI conference in Nelson/ Whakatū. The conference theme champions the planning profession to excel by considering the broader role of planning in today’s environment and explores ways to develop the profession as a thought leader guiding the strategic direction of New Zealand.

The streams of Values / Voices / Vision will address and consider how planners listen to the many voices and sets of values represented in our increasingly diverse communities throughout New Zealand. How we respect and respond to those multiple voices and values is essential in setting out a vision for the kind of society and environments we wish to plan for.

Keynotes at the 2020 conference are: Nina-Marie Lister, Minister David Parker, Kerensa Johnston, Rod Oram, Minister Nanaia Mahuta, Paul Beverley and Hera Smith, Christopher Pettit, Crystal Legacy, Graeme McCarrison and Deborah Lee Sang.

The conference will also feature the Emerging Planners Congress which is the pre-eminent annual professional development event organised by and for emerging planners in New Zealand. And the Papa Pounamu Pre-Conference Hui which is an annual signature event, held prior to the start of the NZPI Annual Conference. Since the formation of a Maori Special Interest Group within NZPI, the Hui has become a key event in which delegates and speakers come together to discuss key topical issues and advancement in Maori planning practice.

There are also an amazing selection of Field Trip and Social Function options to choose from which all explore the diversity of the Nelson region!

Join us in Nelson/Whakatū (Te Tau Ihu ō te Waka a Māui - the prow of Māui’s waka), to take stock of the wealth of experience and expertise we hold collectively as a profession. Reflect on past and foreseeable future challenges and opportunities planners face in transforming voices and values into bold visions for 2020 and beyond.
