Happy New Year. We hope you found time to have a relaxing break over Christmas and the New Year.
We are starting 2016 with a couple of events that address the important issue of risk:
We opened registrations for our annual Risk Management Forum just before Christmas. It's being held on 23 & 24 February in Wellington. You can find more information and register here.
Our Health and Safety Roadshow starts next month and will be in four locations - Christchurch (9 Feb), Auckland (16 Feb), Palmerston North (17 Feb) and Dunedin (1 March). LGNZ and SOLGM have worked together, in partnership with Simpson Grierson, to organise these trainings which cover the important new legislation coming into force on 4 April.
Also we have just opened registrations for our very popular annual Strategic Finance Forum which this year has the theme of 'Finance as a Business Insight Activity'. This is being held in Wellington on 7 & 8 March and you can find more here.
The annual live updates of our series for staff new to the sector - How Local Government Works Induction Series, commences on 10 February. There are five modules in the series - find out how to sign up here. This series is available as recordings all year round on an annual subscription but the live updates are an opportunity for participants to ask questions.
If you'd like to start your year in beautiful Wanaka our 45 South branch are holding their Wanaka Retreat on 3 -5 February. You can register here.
We will be opening registrations for many of our 2016 events in the Event Calendar over the coming week as well, including the Chief Executives Forum and Masterclass (14 & 15 April which ties in with our Gala Dinner and The Marketplace), EA/PA Forum (12 & 13 May), Managing CCOs and Alternatives Training (30 & 31 May) and Future Workforce Forum (20 & 21 June).
We have a couple of deadlines looming that you may want to be aware of:
Entries for the 2016 McGredy Winder SOLGM Local Government Excellence Awards® close at 5pm on 3 February. This includes nominations for the new Brookfields Emerging Leader of the Year Award. Find out more here.
Team registrations for the Australasian Management Challenge close at the end of this month. The good news for South Island councils is that we have enough team registrations to hold a second Challenge day at a South Island venue on the 17th of March (the North Island teams will still have their Challenge day on the 15th of March in Wellington). You can find more information here or email me if you can't find what you need.
The winners of the both the Excellence Awards and the New Zealand leg of the Challenge will be announced at our Annual Gala dinner on 14 April.
For those who receive this newsletter who aren't members of SOLGM, as we’re now half way through our financial year our annual membership fee is half of our full annual fee, making it a great time to trial the benefits of joining.
It’s easy to apply – in this page in our website you’ll find the application form, current pro-rated fees and more information about membership.
Our membership ‘go-to person’, Louise Boland, will be happy to help with any other information you need – contact her on 04 978 1280 or email her at membership@SOLGM.org.nz.
