As part of our Summit Programme this year we are holding a Women in Local Government Breakfast sponsored by Civica. Pat Martel, the new ICMA President, will be guest speaker. Pat, who is also the City Manager at Daly City, California, announced at her inauguration speech that she will be focusing on increasing diversity in the USA's City Manager workforce during her presidency. A particular focus will be increasing the percentage of women in City Manager roles from the current level of 13 percent - a figure that is almost identical to the percentage of women in Chief Executive roles in New Zealand local government. We encourage everyone who has an interest in this important topic to attend this breakfast.

We are continuing to update the Summit Programme in the Summit website. Don't forget to check out what's happening at the Tuesday night dinner - The Future is Now - the local steering group is organising a prize for best dressed. There will be plenty of inspiration in the media this week - October 21, 2015 is the day Marty McFly travelled to in the Back to the Future movies.

LGAccelerated Leadership Programme

SOLGM launched this Programme, designed for people in leadership roles in local government (including project leaders), earlier this year in the Bay of Plenty/Waikato region. Delivered over five modules it's founded on the latest practice in leadership development and is a combination of action learning groups, a written journal and, importantly, application of course learnings in the attendees' own council jobs. Developed in conjunction with the Capability Group the Programme can provide attendees with an NZQA qualification. The Programme is being offered in the Dunedin/Southland region starting 2 February 2016 and the Manawatu/Taranaki region starting 26 January 2016. You can find more details here or email Natalie Stevens, our Manager, Learning and Development - natalie.stevens@SOLGM.org.nz.
