Draft SOLGM Submission on the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission/Te Waihanga Bill

The Finance and Expenditure Commission has called for submissions on the above bill. This Bill establishes the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission to to coordinate, develop and promote an approach to infrastructure and the services that result from the infrastructure, that improves the wellbeing of New Zealanders.

We support the headline policy intent but are concerned the Bill is almost silent on local government’s role as a provider of infrastructure. We make a number of recommendations that we consider better incorporate local government perspectives into the work of the Commission.

Submissions close on 17 May. To help SOLGM meet this deadline please return any comment to raymond.horan@solgm by 5.00pm on 9 May.
