Entries closing soon – don’t wait until 2020! There is still time to enter the 2019 Management Challenge…

Each year approximately 100 councils from Australia and New Zealand enter a team (106 have entered so far for 2019) in the Australasian Management Challenge. State, NZ and Territory region winners go on to compete against the “best of the best” in an international final (this year to be held in Darwin) for the coveted title of Australasian Management Challenge Winner.

Councils that participate in the Management Challenge give their staff the opportunity to build their skills, forge new relationships, network with their peers and create high-performing, cross-organisational teams.

The very relevant, real-world based Pre-Challenge task and Challenge-Day tasks will test your team, put them out of their comfort zone and will help them develop and grow.

If you need help in preparing your internal business case to enter a team, you’ll find a handy sample business case on the Management Challenge website.

There’s still time to enter this year’s Management Challenge – don’t wait until 2020, register your team now (registrations close 28 February).

2019 President’s Award for Distinguished Contribution

Congratulations to Tony Quirk who received the 2019 President’s Award for Distinguished Contribution. SOLGM President Phil Wilson presented this award as part of his session on Friday 25th January at the Marlborough Colloquium. Tony has worked at Marlborough District Council or its predecessors for more than 40 years, and for most of that time in the role of District Secretary. For the past 30 years Tony has almost single-handedly organised the biennial Marlborough Colloquium – this one being the 15th! The programmes are always excellent and the social events outstanding. Voluntarily developing training for fellow SOLGM members in such a sustained way is truly distinguished.
