The success of the HPO owes much to the application of the principles of effective organisation design and establishing the right culture from the start.

'Meet' the 2018 Management Challenge teams

The Australasian Management Challenge is a simulation-based team building, learning and networking programme using real local government themes and common management issues.

Participating teams are challenged to respond to a series of tasks in one day in a 'pressure cooker' environment. Some tasks require written responses (such as a council report or recommendation document) while other tasks take the form of role plays or presentations. The teams are scored on their tasks and on how well they display energy, synergy, effectiveness and creative thinking.

SOLGM hosted the NZ Leg of the Management Challenge at the Silverstream Retreat in Lower Hutt earlier this month. 'Meet' the 15 teams that participated this year on SOLGM's Facebook page.

The team that won the NZ Leg (sponsored by JLT) will be announced at our Gala Dinner on April 12. They'll then go on to represent New Zealand when they compete in the Australasian final in Canberra.

Share your diversity challenges

Can you spare 10 minutes to help us build a current picture of diversity in the New Zealand workplace? Diversity Works New Zealand, with the support of SOLGM, is conducting the April 2018 New Zealand Diversity Survey.

This bi-annual research survey, carried out this year in partnership with Massey University, is providing critical insights into the diversity issues that are a priority for New Zealand organisations – insights that we can share with you and your Council.

To participate, please click here to complete the survey before 5pm on Thursday 12 April 2018.
