Our sister organisation, LGProfessionals Australia, administers the Management Challenge and have told us that they may have the pre-Challenge task out to registered councils before Christmas. That's a good reason for councils considering entering a team in the 2017 Management Challenge to get their registrations done early.

For those unfamiliar with the Challenge it's an intense, fun and collaborative leadership development opportunity where council teams of six complete a pre-Challenge task and then a number of further tasks over the course of a day. The New Zealand Challenge day (or days if we get over 12 teams entering) will be in Upper Hutt in March. The winning team of the New Zealand leg will go on to compete against the Australian state finalists in Hobart in May. You can find more on the Challenge in our website here - that page includes a link to the Australian team registration page. Registrations are open till early February.

The Management Challenge is just one of our leadership development initiatives for 2017 - find out what else we have available under the LGLeadershipPathways brand here.

Every December and June we mail out a Wall Chart that lists all the events and activities that we have scheduled for the coming 12 months. This December is no different and the December 2016 Wall Chart is in the post this week. If it doesn't arrive an electronic copy can be downloaded here.

Most of the events listed in the Wall Chart are already open for registrations in our Event Calendar. That includes a webinar we've just added to the schedule:

LGOIMA Webinar - 25 January starting at 10am: Join Kathryn McLean, Senior Associate at Simpson Grierson as she takes you through how to effectively manage LGOIMA requests. Registrations are priced per council and you can sign up here.

KDC's has asked us to pass on their thanks for the support they have received from the sector. They tell us that almost all New Zealand councils have donated to their council's earthquake relief fund - an outstanding effort. They report that the isolation is a major challenge so everyone's generosity has been very gratifying for both the council and the community.

If you still wish to contribute to the Earthquake relief you can donate at any BNZ or through internet banking - 02-0856-0011698-083, account name is EQ Relief.

Nominations open for the Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards 2017

These awards shouldn't be confused with our own McGredy Winder SOLGM Local Government Excellence Awards - these are also open for entries. I'll have an update on those awards in next week's newsletter.
