We were really excited to launch, at our Gala Dinner last week, this campaign with the first showing of a new video - check it out in our LGCareers website here. We're really pleased with the reception the video received with the Associate Minister of Local Government, Hon Louise Upston calling it a highlight of the evening.

We'll be making this video available to councils that subscribe to our Recruitment and Retention initiative. As well we'll have flyers that can be overprinted with council contact details, and the loan of a pull up banner for career days etc.

We're also taking a space at a Careers Expo in Wellington on 17 and 18 June. Councils that would like to have their careers material and/or a representative knowledgeable about council careers at our booth can contact me for more details.

By the way, councils that support the Recruitment and Retention initiative are also able to advertise secondment placements on our LGConnect discussion groups at no cost. Contact lgconnect@solgm.org.nz if you'd like more information.

The Local Government Operational and Management Effectiveness Programme provide comprehensive performance data across five key organisational areas. Run by SOLGM's sister organisation, Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW with PwC, Sydney in Australia since 2013 the Programme was made available to New Zealand councils last year. The 26 'foundation' councils that joined then have already received their 2014/15 financial year reports. Applications to join the surveys that cover the 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 financial years opened in February. There's some substantial savings to be made by applying before 30 April - more information and applications can be found in our website here.

Our AV supplier and sponsor Streamliner have put together a short video of the dinner which shows what a special night it was. We're already looking forward to next year's celebrations! We've been adding more photos from our Facebook page since the night and LGMagazine are running some articles on the dinner in their May issue.

We've opened registrations for this year's Summit on at The Langham in Auckland on 21-23 September. We already have Kim Hill booked as our MC and an outline of the programme, based round the theme of 'Inspiring Leadership' will be online soon. We'll be following the success of our 2015 Summit programme with plenty of inspiring speakers, interactive workshops and the popular Hot Topics discussion panel will be back. We've secured a great rate for accommodation at The Langham so encourage delegates to look at the registration with accommodation package. You can register in the Summit website here.
