Overview

A well-run project delivers improved organisational performance at an effective cost. A badly-run project can mire your organisation in confusion, cost and even scandal.

Do you have any projects that are late, gone over budget or didn’t deliver what they were supposed to?

Have these issues resulted in damaged reputations, stress, loss of funding from Council or Government agencies or rework?

This workshop is designed for councils and is based on years of experience of working with councils on real projects. It will also teach highly experienced Project Managers some simple, fast and effective tools and techniques that work.

Practical not theory. Less stress – more success!

This workshop will:

• Provide participants with an overview of project management for local authorities
• Create an understanding of why project management is important
• Point out the dangers that arise from poor project management
• Introduce you to the terminology of project management
• Teach a common methodology developed for councils
• Teach some up-to-date tools and techniques that work in councils (Right Track workshop – see below).

Real projects

The workshop will use about three real projects from the participants to work through the process. This makes the process real and embeds the skills and techniques.

Tools

Participants get free access to all of the tools and templates used at the workshop. This includes video training of the Right Track workshop methodology.

Right Track Workshop

One of the unique aspects that we have developed is called the Right Track Workshop. This is a fast technique to set up projects well. We have used it with a number of councils including Mayors, councilors and senior leadership teams.

It is very hands on and participative, people love them and we get great results from them. Areas covered are:

• background
• objectives
• stakeholder analysis
• risk analysis
• needs and wants analysis
• governance
• team

In the workshop we work through real life projects as we work with you through the training material. This adds a lot of value and embeds the learning a lot better.

• Is in a support role to a project
• Hopes to be selected for inclusion in a project team
