Fit for the Digital Future – Technologies for the 21st Century

Taituarã and ALGIM are very pleased to announce the release of their joint report “ Fit for the Digital Future – The influence of new information and digital technologies on the local government sector”.

This is a substantial report that identifies advances in information technology, with a focus on 10 key technologies, and demonstrates their relevance for New Zealand’s 78 local authorities.

Importantly this is not a document for the 'techies'. The report has been written to help non-expert local government managers understand the opportunities and implications of advances in information technology.

Issues that most managers need to know and understand in relation to security of data/information, privacy, transparency and savings and transitional issues such as legal, resourcing and risks associated with adoption, are all covered.

Taituarã’s Manager, Sector Improvement Raymond Horan says this is an example of the Society taking a stronger and more visible thought leadership position in the sector.

“This report is part of an on-going initiative that seeks to provide not only our individual members, but all staff working in the sector, valuable insight and practical guidance that enables prudent and responsible management of public resources. Specifically this report provides decision makers and staff with practical knowledge around the likely, plausible and possible implications of new information and electronic technologies and how they may affect the local government sector.

You can find the report in our website here.

Taituarã would like to acknowledge and thank the following for their work on this report - Blair Dickie (Taituarã Sector Futures Working Party Member – Waikato Regional Council), Mike Manson (ALGIM), Stephanie Rose (Taituarã Sector Futures Working Party Member – Wanganui District Council), Gillian Payne (Taituarã Sector Futures Working Party Member – Western Bay of Plenty District Council), Marion Dowd (ALGIM – Western Bay of Plenty District Council), Jason Dawson (ALGIM – Hamilton City Council) and Billy Michels (ALGIM – Waikato Regional Council).
