Another webinar series of the popular “How local Government Works: An Introduction for New Employees” course will be held during February/March 2012.
The course is run as 5 weekly webinar sessions: 9.30am - 11.00am every Tuesday for 5 weeks from 28 February – 27 March 2012
Developed by local government experts, this course is the most comprehensive overview available of the New Zealand local government sector. The course provides an understanding of the key things that make local government different from any other sector, including relevant legislation.
Attendees also receive the 100 page “How Local Government Works” Guide which is a valuable reference document throughout their career
The guide and course have been developed by local government experts including:
Although any new employee will benefit from this course, it is aimed at employees who have joined local government within the last 12 months and hold positions as managers, or are in planning, policy, finance, legal or regulatory roles or are involved with elected members.
"Course content was specific, factual, to the point, well facilitated and great use of experts to deliver content. The combination of workbook and presentation worked well. These webinars were the most interactive that I have attended. The use of polls, question time, etc made them feel more inclusive than some face to face courses I’ve attended."
"Course met its objectives as a high level overview suitable to staff new to the sector."
"Raymond has a real talent for making some quite dry subjects interesting and presents with such passion and enthusiasm (and) provides such a wealth of knowledge and expertise across all Local Government topic areas. The examples provided are particularly useful to provide context."
"Content spread was well thought out and there was plenty of time to ask questions if anything was not covered."
"A great method for learning. Saves time, money, and is better for the environment than travelling to attend the presentations."
"It was also handy having the recordings to refer back to if needed. A really good way of doing a seminar."
"I’m finding the webinar series a really good form of training actually, getting bite-sized chunks of information with time before and after to read and digest the topic. Its great not having any travel time or costs either. Well done!"
"After 10 years in the UK this course has been a very useful foundation to understand how things work in Local Government in NZ."
A weekly webinar session is held from 9.30 – 11am every Tuesday for 5 weeks.
Each weekly webinar session runs for 90 minutes and involves presentations over the internet from local government experts with council managers adding commentary and insights from their experience. The webinar presentations expand on the material in the guide so that participants are confident in their understanding of the material.
