Celebrate New Ideas

New Zealand Post Local Government Excellence Awards

The New Zealand Post Group Local Government Excellence Awards celebrate and recognise local government projects that showcase best practices, innovation and excellence across local government in New Zealand. These are the only Awards that are solely for local government.

In 2008, SOLGM and New Zealand Post re-designed the Awards to celebrate the new ideas that span a wide range of subject matters in local government. Each year, there will be a set of categories for councils to choose are created which aims to:

  • Align with the principles and directions of the 2002 Local Government Act
  • Focus on key current issues and challenges facing local government in New Zealand
  • Accommodate innovative management and policy development across a broader range of local authority activities.

The Awards are open to all city, district and regional councils in New Zealand, including their council-controlled organisation.

Supereme and Category Winners receive a cash prize and trophy which is usually awarded at the opening ceremony of the SOLGM Annual Conference (usually in September). But more than the prize, the winners gain satisfaction for being recognised by the sector for the work they do. Over the years, Councils that won noted increased morale of their staff and received publicity opportunities throughout the sector and the wider public.

If you believe your project showcases innovation and excellence deserves the recognition of your peers, enter the New Zealand Post Group Local Government Excellence Awards.
