New Zealand Post Management Excellence Awards

If your council wins the New Zealand Post Management Excellence Award, you will receive a prestigious and distinctive trophy as well as $5,000 in cash. You will also receive invaluable publicity through articles in SOLGM’s Pulse magazine and other management publications. Meanwhile, each winner of the four category awards, along with the winner of the New Zealand Post ‘Small Council’ Commendation, will receive $2,000 cash and a commemorative certificate.

The objectives of the Awards are:

  • Process Management;
  • People Management;
  • Technology Innovation; and
  • Community Relationships

An Overall Award winner is picked from the winners of the Category Awards.

There is also a "Small Council" Commendation. Entries across all four award categories that come from local authorities with a population of less than 20,000 will also be considered for this commendation. This replaces that "First Time Entry" commendation that was offered for the past few years.

The objectives of the Awards are:

  • to recognise significant contributions by Councils to the process of achieving excellence in local government
  • to develop the Awards as a learning tool for quality improvement in local government management
  • to foster and facilitate through SOLGM the exchange of good management practice and innovative ideas between local government managers
  • all City, District and Regional Councils can apply either singularly or on a joint basis between Councils. This may also include an entry relating to an initiative involving co-operation or joint venture with other organisations. Councils may enter as many times as they like.
