TAFM Webinar Series

The SOLGM TAFM Webinar Series aim to educate and enhance local government officers' understanding of the proposals and the fine print in the TAFM legislation to help your council with its own submissions and in the redevelopment of its planning systems and processes.

The second purpose of the series is consultative. The information we get here will help SOLGM with its submission – particularly issues of a technical nature. The webinars are a supplement to the consultation, and not the whole consultation process.

Who should attend

Registration is open to any local government elected member or staff member - but the focus is primarily technical.  There will be six webinars in total, covering three topics. Each topic will have 2 rounds of webinars. There is small registration fee of $50 plus GST.

You will not need any special equipment to access the webinars, all you need is a computer with capability of accessing the internet to view the presentations and to listen and participate -- you will need a phone or speakers & microphone.  Click here for more information about technology requirements.

Webinar 2: The Pre-Election Report

This a webinar on intent, content, logistics, and what would really be needed to make this work.

This is one of the Minister’s flagship proposals, and to be honest there is no real sound bite that can be used to mount a public case against this – while our draft submission expresses concerns about the likely effectiveness of the requirement, and hence its value for money, the bulk of our comment on this will be seeking to make the requirement more of a logistical possibility.

Things to Know

  • We have decided not to hold a webinar on the so-called “core services” clause – we have received advice that this clause is symbolic at best, and we advise people to avoid inadvertently giving it meaning by playing with it. We will expand further on this in the notes to the draft submission.
  • Participants will be expected to have read the draft SOLGM submission – which will be publicly available a week after the bill is introduced. We will make any TAFM announcements on the SOLGM website and member updates, as well as relevant listserves.
  • Webinars will be recorded and made available to participants after sessions have finished. A registrant for one session will also receive the recording from the other – so a person who registers for the first session on Pre-Election Reports will get the recording from that session and the recording from the second session on that same topic.
