The SOLGM Strategic Planning Working Party (SPWP) was established in 2007 to assist the local government sector achieve and maintain high standards of integrated strategic planning and policy development.
In recent times, the SPWP's main concern has been supporting the identification of good practices in advance of the 2009-2019 Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) planning round.

The purpose of the Strategic Planning Leadership Group (SPLG) is to provide assistance to the local government sector in achieving high standards of integrated policy development, planning, and reporting, in order to achieve the underlying sustainable development objectives of the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA).
The terms of Reference for the Working Party were approved by the SOLGM Executive Committee in June 2007.

The Community Plan Conference is an annual event that brings together local government managers and staff involved in the community planning process.
The 2010 Community Plan Conference is scheduled on 26-27 August 2010 in Auckland. Further information will be available on the SOLGM website in due course.
