The SOLGM Strategic Planning Working Party (SPWP) was established in 2007 to assist the local government sector achieve and maintain high standards of integrated strategic planning and policy development.
In recent times, the SPWP's main concern has been supporting the identification of good practices in advance of the 2009-2019 Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) planning round.

SOLGM was asked to contribute some thoughts on how benchmarking of non-financial performance across the five mandatory groups of activities. The document represents some first thoughts on how this might actually work in practice – including some things that the sector is currently measuring in there activities.

The purpose of the Strategic Planning Leadership Group (SPLG) is to provide assistance to the local government sector in achieving high standards of integrated policy development, planning, and reporting, in order to achieve the underlying sustainable development objectives of the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA).
The terms of Reference for the Working Party were approved by the SOLGM Executive Committee in June 2007.
