SOLGM is a professional management organisation that aims to build capability and promote work excellence among local government managers and staff, making them better managers.
SOLGM supports the professional development of its members via the following:
The SOLGM Overseas Manager Exchange Programme provides an ideal opportunity for SOLGM members to develop their skills, competencies and knowledge by learning from local authorities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia.
This enriching programme includes attending the Annual Conference of the host country. The New Zealand Manager (SOLGM member) will then host their overseas counterpart in New Zealand at the time of the SOLGM Annual Conference (usually September).
Both participants benefit from the cultural experience, the ongoing exchange of information and establishing a network internationally.

The Overseas Manager Exchange programme is sponsored by Civic Assurance and JLT.
SOLGM members get to apply for travel grants to two international conferences: ICMA Annual Conference (USA) and the LGMA National Congress (Australia). Attending these international conferences is a great opportunity to learn from overseas experiences, draw ideas from best practice examples and to build networks.
The International Conference Attendance Awards are made available to Full SOLGM members who have not attended an ICMA or LGMA conference in the past.
