OVERVIEW

This one day training programme is designed to meet the needs of anyone who wants a basic understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA).

Many people who are not experts on the RMA come into contact with it in the course of their work and need to have a lay person's understanding of its content and processes. Without blinding you with science, this course aims to give you the understanding and oversight you will need to approach the Act with confidence and leave you 'unafraid of the RMA'

The course will give you an introductory level of knowledge and training that will provide you with the following key outcomes;

  • An understanding of the historical background to the RMA, including its philosophy and purpose.
  • A detailed understanding of the structure of the RMA.
  • An understanding of the planning documents prepared under the RMA.
  • A general understanding of the way the RMA relates to other legislation.
  • Insight into the various organisations involved with the RMA and their roles and responsibilities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The course will be invaluable to anyone involved with local government or interested in the RMA, including:

  • Council staff - resource management / building / subdivision / engineering, democracy services, administration, management, records, IT, strategic planning, finance etc.
  • Newly elected Councillors and Community Board Members.
  • Long standing Councillors and Community Board Members with a developing interest / involvement in RMA matters.
  • Iwi authorities / hapu representatives.
  • Developers and investors.
  • Community and heritage groups
