Introducing our new LGExecutiveLeaders Programme

This programme is the result of on-going discussions with senior people across the sector around the need to develop managers who are `near-CE ready`. The sector offers huge potential for leadership careers. To date around 80 percent of Chief Executive appointments have been candidates from outside the employing Council, 85 percent of those were taken from a pool of leaders with local government experience.

This 12 month programme has been designed with the Continuum Group to produce leaders who have the ambition, aspiration and skillsets to be credible candidates for Chief Executive roles. This cohort approach complements SOLGM's existing leadership programmes. However it is sufficiently different so that leaders can differentiate their readiness. Importantly it uses the latest in brain based science and leadership effectiveness to get results and drive behavioural change. It does not look to duplicate or even emulate previous developmental experiences; its focus is on the `who` of leadership, not so much the `what`.

Who Should Attend

The LGExecutiveLeaders programme is designed for executives who are already in positions of influence - participants will be those that aspire to positions at the highest levels of Local Government.

The first programme is due to start in November in Wellington - to find out more visit our website or email our Manager, Learning and Development, Natalie Stevens.

Talk to Natalie too if you're interested in joining one of our regionally based LGAcceleratedLeadership Programmes. There is one due to start shortly in the Bay of Plenty region and applications are now open. This is the programme for those wanting to take the next step in their leadership careers. It's already been successfully delivered to nearly 100 local government staff round the country.

FORUM: Community Plan

15 & 16 August in Auckland

This Forum is for those on the long and winding road to the 2018-28 long-term plans. This Forum brings together those local government managers and staff who are involved in direction-setting, community planning and engagement processes.

This year we focus on some of the issues that will come up during the 2018 LTP process. This includes developments in the policy and regulatory space, climate change and technological change and their implications for the LTP and its related disciplines.

We revisit the exceptions based annual plan and service reviews one year on and reflect on who is doing these well, using actual case studies. And as always we have the best and most inspirational of the new and innovative in community engagement, including those honoured in the Council/Community Relations Category of the 2016 McGredy Winder SOLGM Local Government Excellence Awards®.
