We're thrilled to announce that participants in our popular LGAcceleratedLeadership programme (LGAL) can, with a small amount of additional work over and above that already in the programme, apply for the National Certificate in Business (First Line Management - Level 4) through the Skills Organisation.

For LGAL participants wanting to gain the qualification it is really straightforward:

> Complete all the exercises during the prepare phase, workshops and apply phases of the programme keeping evidence of the completed exercises for audit purposes.

> Complete the additional open book assessment supplied by SOLGM.

> Complete and provide to the Skills Organisation an attestation form.

Our Manager, Leadership and Development, Natalie Stevens will be happy to answer any questions on this programme or any of our other leadership programmes. Email her at natalie.stevens@solgm.org.nz

Our congratulations go to members of the team from Dunedin - winners of the New Zealand leg of the Challenge, who placed third at the finals of the Australasian Management Challenge held in Melbourne last Friday. That continues New Zealand's strong showing at the finals where teams compete against the Australian state finalists. Over the past five years our teams have consistently placed in the top three. Check out our Facebook post if you'd like to congratulate the team on their fantastic achievement.

This year the competition to be the New Zealand finalist was particularly strong with 16 councils entering. Across Australasia 97 teams entered the 2016 Challenge. The team from Sunshine Coast Council were first and the team from the City of Darwin were second. For those unfamiliar with the Challenge you can find more in our website here. Registrations for the 2017 Challenge will open in November.

If you're not already a member of SOLGM now is the time to consider joining. Our members recently voted to change the rules and consequently full membership is open to all those working in local government from this Friday, 1 July. Application information is in our website here and the list of benefits can be found here. An easy benefit is our member discount on events - typically the discount on only a couple of events will cover the annual membership fee.
