In conjunction with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) we would like to invite everyone with an interest in the Building Consent Authority accreditation scheme to join this free webinar outlining changes to the existing Building Consent Authority Accreditation Scheme.
MBIE's Pete Laureson, Manager – Building System Control and Mike Reedy, Senior Advisor will talk about the new relationship with the accreditation body ( IANZ), changes to the regulations and the development of regulatory guidance.
The webinar is an opportunity to understand why the changes to the regulations have a focus on competency and qualifications for Building Control Officers, acknowledging the importance and complexity of their role.
Most importantly, the webinar is an opportunity to learn more about the MBIE regulatory guidance. Learn how to use it to ensure your BCA complies with the minimum standards and criteria for accreditation and ensure compliance before your accreditation assessment.
Everyone has a role to play in supporting the scheme, and this is a great opportunity to learn about the changes, and what you can do to ensure that your BCA is fully compliant with accreditation requirements.

Manager – Building System Control I MBIEPeter Laurenson is currently the Manager - Building Systems Controls for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. His areas of responsibility include the Building Code and associated Acceptable Solutions, Verification Methods, updates and technical guidance, and the Consent System team which has responsibility for Building Consent Authority (BCA) accreditation and technical audits.
Peter is a Director on the Board of the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand, and is the chairman of the International Accreditation New Zealand BCA Professional Advisory Committee. He was previously the Building Services Manager for Queenstown Lakes District Council for 13 years, and the chairman of the Southern Building Controls Group (SBCG) which is a cluster grouping of 11 BCAs in the lower South Island. Prior to that, Peter worked in the building supplies industry for around 22 years in branch and national management. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from Otago University.
Mike Reedy

Mike has an extensive building industry background and is a Senior Advisor with MBIE’s Consent System Team of the Building System Performance Branch. He provides technical and legislative information including guidance to the wider building sector. Mike joined the former Department of Building and Housing in 2008. Prior to that, he spent several years as a plumbing and drainage tutor at Weltec, which was preceded by many years with Hutt City Council processing and inspecting building consent work.
