The SOLGM working parties are formed from appointed experts to influence and support sector activities of national importance as a well contribute to our key work programmes.

By participating in our Working Parties SOLGM members are able to gain a wealth of knowledge and insight in respect to issues that are critical to local government professionals while also enhancing their leadership skills and career opportunities.


Business Performance Working Party

The Business Performance Working Party (BPP) supports SOLGM’s vision by promoting high standards of financial management, performance measurement and management, asset management, and the use of these disciplines as drivers of business transformation.


Democracy and Governance Support Working Party

The purpose of the SOLGM Democracy and Governance Support Working Party (DGS) supports achievement of SOLGM’s vision by assisting the local government sector to achieve high standards in the conduct of democracy services and governance support activity; assisting the local government sector to achieve high standards in the planning, management and conduct of elections and polls under the Local Electoral Act 2001; working in conjunction with other agencies, enhance public understanding of the role of local democracy within New Zealand’s system of governance, and public participation of local democracy


The Workforce Working Party

The Workforce Working Party (WWP) supports achievement of SOLGM’s vision through its identification of the local government sector’s present and future workforce needs, and developing guidance and/or solutions so that chief executives can meet those needs, at reasonable cost.


The Sector Policy and Outlook Working Party

The Sector Policy and Outlook Working Party (SPO) supports achievement of SOLGM’s vision by identifying policy issues and trends with the potential to impact on local authorities and/or communities now and in the medium to long-term future and advising the sector on these issues and trends. The intent is that SPO will act as the sector’s thinktank.


Planning and Accountability Working Party

The Planning and Accountability Working Party (PWP) supports achievement of SOLGM’s vision by promoting high standards of integrated planning and policy development, and the associated accountability and reporting arrangements. 2. PWP shall focus on, but is not limited to, planning and reporting under the Local Government Act 2002, district planning, spatial/integrated strategic planning, and the planning requirements of other legislation.
